A space built for a proper evening. Somewhere the whole group can sit down together for dinner, hear a speech, and not have to shout over each other. A barn, a private dining room, or a large communal kitchen-diner all work; a scattering of small separate lounges doesn't.
Exclusive or near-exclusive use. For a milestone celebration, most people don't want other unconnected guests wandering through. Whole-site hire, or a private-hire arrangement at a hotel, matters more here than for a casual group trip.
Something worth photographing. Milestone weekends generate photos that get looked at for years. A firepit at dusk, a striking building, a wide view — venues with a genuine sense of place photograph better than a generic large house.
Catering flexibility. Some groups want to cook together as part of the celebration. Others want it handled entirely. Check what the venue can arrange either way before assuming.
Enough beds for everyone who matters. Milestone weekends often have a guest list that doesn't shrink to fit — check total capacity honestly against your actual list before falling in love with a venue that's two bedrooms short.
