The Firs has two lodges built for families of four — The Stables and The Bushel — and choosing between them comes down to the kind of stay you want. Both sit within our four-acre Suffolk countryside retreat, both have a private wood-fired hot tub, and both make brilliant family UK stays just 2 hours from London and 45 minutes from Norwich. Here's how to pick.

Choose The Stables if you want flexibility and solid walls. It's a two-bedroom, two-bathroom converted 19th-century stable block, with superking beds that split into singles — so it works whether you've got younger children or teens who want their own space. Two ensuites mean no morning queues, there's a swing-seat veranda, and a deep roll-top bath for the end of a long day in the fresh air. It's our most adaptable lodge.

Choose The Bushel if you want the adventure of canvas. It's a spacious safari tent in a woodland clearing, with a superking bed for the parents and two single cabin beds for the children — the sort of stay where the kids tell everyone they slept "in the woods." You get the romance of sleeping close to nature with a proper bed and a wood-burning stove to keep things snug. Orchard views all around.

Whichever you choose, the rest of the site is shared and made for families: garden games on the lawn, the pizza oven and firepit for cooking on fire, and the coast under half an hour away.
