Best UK Venues for Yoga Teachers to Host a Retreat
Finding a venue to run your own retreat is a different search to finding somewhere to attend one. You need exclusive use, a space that works for practice, and a team that understands retreats aren't a normal group booking. Here are four UK venues worth considering, including our own.
The Firs, Cratfield, Suffolk
Six lodges across four acres, taken as a whole site so there are no strangers wandering through and no slots to share. Morning practice works well in the party barn, doors open to the grounds. Between sessions, the group has the hot tubs, the sauna and plunge, and the moat to drift to. Fire-cooked food and long table dinners rather than a formal dining room.
Worth knowing: there's no dedicated yoga studio here — the party barn is a flexible space rather than a purpose-built one, which suits teachers who want their group spread across the grounds rather than confined to one room.
2 hours from London, 45 minutes from Norwich. More on hosting here.
Potash Barns, near Woodbridge, Suffolk
Three converted barns and a purpose-arranged studio on five acres, taken as one private venue for up to twelve. Cart Lodge, Old Oak Barn and Willow Barn are booked together, so there's no shared corridor and no other guests. Managed by Abode Retreats, a Suffolk-based team.
Worth knowing: a genuinely purpose-built studio, which The Firs doesn't have — the better choice if a dedicated practice room matters more to you than flexible outdoor space. Smaller capacity too, at twelve rather than sixteen.

West Lexham, Norfolk
A dedicated retreat centre near King's Lynn with several distinct spaces for hire — the Barn, the Village Hall, the Orangery, the Library, the Hayloft — plus its own café and kitchen garden. This is a venue built specifically around hosting other people's retreats, with treehouses, cabins and cottages for accommodation.
Worth knowing: the most retreat-specialised of the four, with more configuration options for different group sizes, but a more institutional feel than a private lodge site.

Laurel Park, Lincolnshire/Norfolk/Cambridgeshire border
A secluded glamping retreat venue on three acres, built by experienced retreat hosts with a hand-built yoga shala. A more back-to-basics option — grass pitches with electric hook-up if your group brings its own accommodation, plus a small caravan for the host.
Worth knowing: the most affordable and flexible of the four, well suited to teachers running a lower-cost retreat or one with campers, but with fewer creature comforts than the others.
What to actually check before booking any of these
Exclusive use, not just a room booking — you want the whole site, not a shared slot. Whether there's a dedicated practice space or a flexible one, and which suits your teaching style. Capacity against your actual group size, since retreat numbers rarely fill a venue's maximum. And how food is handled — self-catered, provided, or somewhere in between.
FAQ
How far ahead should I book a retreat venue?
Six to twelve months for a weekend retreat, longer for anything over a week or during peak season.
Do these venues provide yoga equipment?
Varies by venue — ask directly rather than assume. The Firs doesn't currently supply mats or props.
Can I bring my own catering team?
At The Firs, yes — the kitchens are yours to use as you plan.
